| A word about this photo: This photo was taken at A-3 just after the 396th returned from a mission. Pictured center is Lt Paul Quilty who had just witnessed his good friend go down. The photo speaks a thousand words. Records say (13Aug44): "Lt. C. H. Olson led White Flight on the third mission for the day. While in the target area, "Big Olie" was hit by a barrage of light flak, pulled up and bailed out at 1,500 feet. When Lt. Quilty orbited the spot where the chute hit the ground, it had disappeared." Lt Olsen is buried at the Normandy Cemetery. |
